The 13th RAI International Festival of Ethnographic Film was jointly hosted by National Museums Scotland and STAR, the Consortium of Anthropology Departments of the Universities of Edinburgh, Aberdeen and St. Andrews.
The festival was held from Thursday 13th – Sunday 16th of June 2013 at the National Museum of Scotland and the Chrystal Macmillian building at Edinburgh University, in central Edinburgh (download a campus map here)
The Scottish Training in Anthropological Research (STAR) consortium brings together the anthropology departments of the Universities of Aberdeen, Edinburgh and St Andrews. Founded in 2007, STAR brings the staff and students of these three universities together for unique collective training and research activities. These include the delivery of intensive residential research training programs as well as collaborations for large anthropology events such as the upcoming ASA14 Decennial and the RAI Film Festival. STAR allows Scottish anthropology to flourish across institutions. For an account of recent activities see: http://www.san.ed.ac.uk/scottish_training_in_anthropological_research_star
We were delighted to be joining forces this year with the Center for Visual Anthropology at the University of Southern California in order that the rich selection of films being shown in Edinburgh can also be seen in a few months time in Los Angeles. The USC Center has been one of the world’s most influential departments for teaching and developing anthropological film and this association with the RAI, National Museums Scotland and STAR put the RAI International Festival of Ethnographic Film on a truly global footing.
We are also pleased to announce that LUX and Collective were organising “Factish Field: An Art and Anthropology Summer School” to coincide with our Festival, 10 -14 June!
The RAI Film Festival team is looking forward to meeting you again at our next festival in summer 2015!
