The Department of Social Anthropology is one of the oldest established departments of anthropology in the UK. The department scored highly in the REF 2014, being ranked first in the country in terms of GPA for Social Anthropology, and houses the world leading Granada Centre of Visual Anthropology.

This is an opportunity for an outstanding individual who can deliver world-leading research in Visual Anthropology alongside high quality training in ethnographic filmmaking, editing and sound recording, and who will be a key member of the department who can contribute to teaching in social anthropology at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

You will have a PhD or equivalent in Social, Cultural or Visual Anthropology and a track record of internationally excellent publications appropriate for career stage. You will be an experienced maker of ethnographic films who has experience of teaching hands on practical filmmaking, editing and supervision.

You will have made high quality, sole authored ethnographic documentaries, and you are likely to have received prizes or commendations at a leading anthropological film-festival.

As an equal opportunities employer, we welcome applications from all suitably qualified persons. However, as black and minority ethnic (BME) candidates are currently under-represented at this level in this area, we would particularly welcome applications from BME applicants. All appointments will be made on merit.
